Flooring FAQ
Honest answers to what people actually ask us.
If your question isn’t here, call us at (630) 584-5812. One of us picks up — no phone tree.
- How much does carpet cost installed in Naperville?
Most of our carpet jobs land between $3 and $6 per square foot installed, including pad, tack strip, and tear-out of the old carpet. A typical bedroom plus staircase runs around $1,100. Builder-grade polyester starts at the low end; wool, solution-dyed nylon, and patterned goods push toward $6. Stairs add $30 per tread because they take twice as long to wrap as flat floor. Use the quote tool for a room-by-room estimate, or come by the showroom to feel samples before you commit.
- What does LVP cost installed?
Luxury vinyl plank runs $9 to $14 per square foot installed in our market. That covers the plank, glue or click-lock, underlayment where needed, trim, transitions, and furniture moves. A 2,000 sq ft main-floor install typically lands around $20,000. The spread comes from plank thickness (5mm vs 8mm), wear layer (12 mil vs 22 mil), and how much subfloor prep your slab or plywood needs. Not sure which product fits? Ask Floor-E.
- How does the in-home consult work?
Paul, Jake, or Andy comes to your house, measures every room you're considering, looks at transitions and subfloor, and brings samples based on what you told us on the phone. No pressure, no sit-down close. You get a written quote, usually within 48 hours, with exact product, square footage, and a firm install price. If you want to shop more samples, we send you home with whatever you need. Book at (630) 584-5812 or through the contact page.
- How fast can you install?
For in-stock carpet and LVP, we can usually be on the floor within 7 to 10 days of signing. Special-order hardwood and wool carpet run 2 to 4 weeks depending on the mill. Most single-room jobs wrap in a day. A 2,000 sq ft LVP main floor is typically 2 to 3 days including trim. We schedule one job per crew per day, so you get our full attention start to finish — no juggling between houses.
- What's the best carpet for stairs?
Solution-dyed nylon in a low, dense pile. Stairs see more abrasion per square foot than any other surface in your house, and polyester crushes faster than nylon under that kind of wear. Avoid loop Berbers on stairs — if a single loop snags on a kid's toy or a dog's nail, the whole row can run. Patterned cut-pile and textured plushes hide traffic best. We'll bring stair-appropriate samples to the consult. Stair install is $30 per tread on top of the carpet price.
- Do you finance? What are the terms?
Yes. We partner with Wisetack for 0% APR financing on 3, 6, and 12 month terms for qualified buyers, plus a 24-month option with a small APR. Application is a soft credit pull — no impact on your score just to see your offers. Most approvals come back in under 60 seconds. Full details on the financing page. All terms subject to credit approval by Wisetack.
- What's covered under the lifetime installation warranty?
Anything that goes wrong because of how we installed it — ever. Seams that open up, planks that lift, carpet that ripples, transitions that come loose. You call, we come back and fix it. The warranty is tied to the house, not the original owner, so it transfers if you sell. Product defects are covered separately by the manufacturer warranty that comes with your flooring. Full terms on the warranty page.
- Do you serve my town?
We cover 189 cities across the western Chicago suburbs — Naperville, Aurora, Wheaton, Downers Grove, Bolingbrook, Plainfield, Lisle, Warrenville, Winfield, St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, Oswego, Yorkville, and everything in between. If you're within about 40 miles of our Naperville showroom, we're coming. Farther out, call us anyway — we take jobs outside that radius when the scope makes sense. See the full list on the service-area page.
- Can I put LVP in a basement that sometimes gets damp?
Yes, LVP is the right answer for basements in this area. It's 100% waterproof — plank, core, and backing — so minor seepage or a burst supply line won't destroy it the way it would laminate or engineered hardwood. The caveat: LVP won't stop water, it just survives it. If you have chronic hydrostatic moisture coming through the slab, fix that first with a dehumidifier or a vapor barrier. Click-lock LVP over an underlayment with a built-in vapor barrier is our default basement spec.
- What's the best flooring for dogs and cats?
LVP with a 20 mil or 22 mil wear layer is the most pet-proof surface we install. It scratches less than hardwood, doesn't absorb urine like carpet, and wipes clean. If you want carpet in bedrooms, solution-dyed nylon with a stain-resistant treatment holds up to pet accidents — the color is locked into the fiber, so bleach and enzyme cleaners won't strip it. Avoid hand-scraped hardwood with soft species like pine or cherry; claws dent it fast. Ask Floor-E for pet-friendly picks.
- Do you work with condos and HOAs?
All the time. Most condo associations require an IIC 50+ rated underlayment for any hard-surface install above a neighbor — we bring products that meet or exceed that spec. We can provide our license, insurance certificate, and product acoustic data directly to your management company before install day. Give us your association's flooring rules at the consult and we'll match the product to them. We're licensed and insured in Illinois.
- Do I need to replace my subfloor before new flooring?
Usually no. We check the subfloor during the consult and again on install day. Small squeaks, minor dips, and surface nails are things we fix as part of the job. Full subfloor replacement comes up maybe once every 30 jobs — usually from long-term water damage or failed particleboard in older homes. If we find it, we'll show you the problem, quote the repair separately, and you decide. We don't pad the original quote for repairs we haven't confirmed we need.
- Do you move furniture?
Yes, basic furniture moves are included. Beds, dressers, couches, tables, chairs — we handle it. We ask you to clear out small stuff (lamps, electronics, knick-knacks, anything breakable) and empty dresser drawers. Pianos, gun safes, pool tables, and aquariums are the exceptions — those need a specialty mover, and we'll coordinate timing with whoever you hire. Clothes can stay on closet rods. We put furniture back where it was when we're done.
- Is there a minimum job size?
No minimum in square footage, but there's a $194 minimum job charge on projects under $1,000. That covers the crew's time to load the truck, drive out, and do the job right even on a small repair or a single closet. Above $1,000 the minimum doesn't apply — you're just paying the quoted price. Small jobs we do regularly: stair runners, single closets, patch-ins after a plumbing repair, transition strips, and re-stretches on rippled carpet.
- Do you offer free carpet cleaning?
Yes. Free carpet cleaning with every carpet purchase — one room or whole house, doesn't matter, it's covered. It's our way of keeping your carpet looking new longer and staying in touch after the install wraps up. Scheduling details are finalized at the point of sale.
