Construction types

SPC vs WPC vs click-lock vs glue-down.

Rigid-core (SPC)

Stone-polymer composite. Hardest, most dent-resistant, best over uneven subfloors. Installs click-lock over almost any surface including tile and concrete.

Rigid-core (WPC)

Wood-polymer composite. Slightly softer underfoot than SPC, quieter to walk on, usually thicker. Good middle ground for residential.

Click-lock (floating)

Planks snap together and float over the subfloor — no glue needed. Fast install, removable if you ever need to.

Glue-down

Planks adhere directly to the subfloor. Feels more solid underfoot, stands up to heavier rolling loads. Required for commercial and some radiant-heat installs.

Why LVP

  • Kid-, pet-, and chair-wheel-friendly wear layers (12–22 mil)
  • Warm underfoot compared to tile, quieter than laminate
  • Installs over almost any flat subfloor
  • Lifetime residential warranties on premium lines

LVP FAQ

Before you commit.

What's the difference between LVP and LVT?

LVP is plank-shaped and prints wood looks. LVT is tile-shaped and prints stone, ceramic, or travertine. Same waterproof core technology — different visuals.

Is LVP actually waterproof?

Yes — the plank itself is 100% waterproof (PVC core). Note this is different from 'water-resistant' laminate. Caveat: if enough water gets underneath a floating LVP floor, the subfloor can still be damaged. For wet bathrooms we often recommend glue-down.

Can LVP go over existing tile or vinyl?

Yes, as long as the existing floor is flat, solid, and clean. Click-lock LVP is specifically designed for this — no need to demo the old floor in most cases.

Will it scratch?

LVP is more scratch-resistant than hardwood but not scratch-proof. The wear layer thickness (12 mil = light residential, 20+ mil = pet-friendly) matters. We'll recommend a wear layer based on how you live.

How thick should my LVP be?

Most residential LVP is 4–8mm thick. Thicker doesn't always mean better — wear layer thickness and core quality matter more. A 6mm SPC with a 20 mil wear layer outlasts an 8mm WPC with 12 mil.

How much does new flooring cost?

Most whole-room carpet jobs run $3–$6 per square foot fully installed; LVP and LVT typically $6–$12; hardwood $10–$18. We give you a fully loaded quote in writing at the in-home consult so there are no surprises.
